Selling when the internet drops

What keeps working offline, what waits, and how to make sure nothing is lost.

Internet connections drop. A till should not. Diwaan POS keeps selling without a connection, and this is how to make the most of it.

What keeps working

  • Scanning and searching items
  • Cash sales, with change worked out
  • Printed receipts
  • Refunds of sales made on the same device
  • Closing the day, with the cash count

What waits for the connection

  • Card and mobile money payments that need confirmation from the provider
  • Receipts sent by text or email
  • Stock levels at other branches

The till shows how many sales are waiting to sync. When the connection returns, they sync in the order they happened, and the books update.

Three habits that prevent problems

Open the till online once a day. This downloads the latest prices and items, so the offline till sells at today's prices.

Do not clear the browser or app data while sales are waiting. The till warns you, but it is worth telling every cashier.

Use one device per till. Two devices selling the same stock offline can both sell the last unit. Diwaan flags it when they sync, but it is better avoided.

A mobile hotspot from a phone is often enough to sync a day's sales in under a minute.
