Close the day

Count the cash, compare it with what Diwaan expects, and post the day to the books.

Closing the day checks that the money in the drawer matches the sales recorded at the till. It takes about two minutes. When you close, the day's cash, card and mobile money totals post to the books.

Before you start

  • Finish or park any open sales on this till.
  • Make sure you have the Close the day permission. Owners and managers have it by default.
  • If the till was offline, wait until the sync status shows all sales sent.

Close the day

  1. At the till, open the menu and choose Close the day.
  2. Diwaan shows the opening cash, cash sales, cash paid out and the amount expected in the drawer.
  3. Count the cash in the drawer. Enter the total, or enter each note and coin and let Diwaan add them up.
  4. Check card and mobile money totals against your terminal and provider. Enter them if they differ.
  5. Choose Close the day. Diwaan posts the day and prints a closing summary.
When counted cash matches expected cash, you see Day closed. Cash matches. with the total, for example $48,210.00.

If the cash differs

Diwaan shows the difference, for example Cash differs by $20.00. Recount first. Most differences come from a miscount or a sale entered with the wrong payment type.

  • To fix a payment type, open the sale from today's list and change it before closing.
  • If the difference is real, close anyway and add a note. It posts to Cash over and short in the books, so your accountant can see it.

After closing

The closed day is locked for that till. Sales made after closing belong to the next day. Owners can see every closed day, with its counts and notes, in Insights, then Daily closes.
